Grand Forks base a finalist for tanker mission

North Dakota's congressional delegation announced today th Grand Forks Air Force Base is one of four named as a finalist to be an activity duty base for the nation's KC-46A aerial refueling tanker mission.
According to Senator John Hoeven, the selection for the main operating base will be announced this Spring. If Grand Forks is named the main operating base, it could receive 32 KC-46A aircraft.
According to the announcement, Air Force personnel will be conducting on-site surveys of bases in the next few months to further assess locations capabilities to support operational and training requirements, potential impacts to exisiting missions, housing, infrastructure and manpower.
Other finalists are Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma, McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, and Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington.
