Recreational activities abound in Grand Forks. From shopping, unique dinning experiences, theater, ballet and symphony performances to golfing, boating, fishing and hunting, Grand Forks has something to entertain you.

Grand Forks Park District

Excellent programming and facilities provided by the Grand Forks Park District (GFPD) put Grand Forks at the head of the class. The Parks Department maintains about 850 acres of land, which equals 43 parks and facilities. The Park Department provides Grand Forks with a clean, manicured area to hold picnics, family reunions, or simply a place to relax.

Alerus Center

The Alerus Center opened its doors in February 2001 and hosts various conventions, exhibitions, meetings and banquets. It also houses a regulation NCAA football and soccer field. The arena seats 13,400 for football or soccer and 22,000 for entertainment events. With 130,000 square feet of exhibit space, it is the largest hall between Seattle and the Twin Cities.

Ralph Engelstad Arena

It's almost impossible to describe the $104+ million Ralph Engelstad Arena but it is described by many as the "finest facility of its kind in the world." The 400,000+ square foot and five-storied arena, was opened in October 2001 and since that time, has had more than 330,000 ticketed patrons pass through its doors. The Ralph features 48 luxury suites and has total seating for 11,600 and hosts national touring shows and artists as well as local and international sporting events.

King's Walk PGA Golf Course

The King's Walk public golf course opened the spring of 2002. Designed by Arnold Palmer and his design team, this course is the only PGA-rated course in North Dakota or Manitoba and is characterized by a rolling terrain with mounds, moguls, native grasses, Austrian pine trees and lakes, which give a feeling of the Scottish links.

Chester Fritz Auditorium

The Chester Fritz Auditorium, located on the campus of the University of North Dakota, seats 2,400 and is well known for its acoustic excellence. All types of live entertainment from professional music groups, dance companies, and theater groups to local folk artists perform on its stage.

North Valley Arts Council

The North Valley Arts Council (NOVAC) is a non-profit membership organization whose mission is to support art and culture for the citizens of the Greater Grand Forks area through service, education, and advocacy. The arts council serves as the fiscal and administrative agent for regranting programs to art and cultural organizations in the area.

Empire Arts Center

Empire Arts Center is a non-profit multi-purpose facility located in downtown Grand Forks, ND. Renovated in 1998, the Empire is a circa 1919 movie house renovated into a multi-use theater and gallery facility. The Empire Arts Center hosts a variety of theater productions, performing arts, films, concerts, speakers, community events, and meetings throughout the year.

North Dakota Museum of Art

The North Dakota Museum of Art is the official art gallery of the State of North Dakota. It has won numerous awards and has been recognized by national media including the New York Times and CBS News Sunday Morning . The Museum Café and Coffee Shop is also located in the ND Museum of Art. This intimate venue boasts an exquisite menu.

Myra Museum

The Myra Museum, managed by the County Historical Society, contains a fully furnished early settler's home, carriage house, schoolhouse, and post office and provides a glimpse of life in the early days of Grand Forks County.

Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra

The Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra, Grand Forks' 92-year old symphony orchestra, performs classical concerts, pops and special events. Guest artists from the U.S. and Canada join the symphony for outstanding performances including world premieres of new music. The Symphony Association offers youth programs including a youth symphony, junior symphony, master classes, workshops and coaching in chamber music.
