QUALITY OF WORK
Employee Turnover Rates
Employee turnover rates are expected to be 20-30 percent Nationwide. North Dakota boasts employee turnover rates less than 15 percent in fact some employers do not even track turnover because it’s not an issue.
In a 2003 labor availability study, 70.5 percent of the employers responding reported a turnover rate less than 10 percent.
Employee Absentee Rates
North Dakotans’ know at a young age that absenteeism is unacceptable. In ND we have the second highest average daily attendance as a percentage of fall enrollments in our high schools. For businesses and employers, this translates into hard workers who were raised with the values of commitment and dependability.
Consider this: Over 85 percent of the North Dakota employers in one labor study indicated their daily absenteeism is less than 6 percent. In fact, many North Dakota businesses don’t even consider absenteeism as a cost of doing business. Look at these statistics:
Underemployment Rates*
The unemployment rate in North Dakota averages 3.0 percent. This low unemployment rate can be deceiving, because ND has a significant amount of underemployed workers searching for a change of pace.
North Dakota’s underemployed represents prospective workers. They are individuals working in a job below their skill level or training. A number of North Dakota communities conducted labor availability studies in September of 2006. The average number of job seekers – or underemployed workers – in these communities was 31.3 percent.
Another North Dakota community conducted a survey of its existing workforce and found the following:
- Nearly 90 percent of all survey respondents have achieved their high school diploma (or equivalent);
- Over 30 percent of the survey respondents had at least a four-year college degree; and
- Over 30 percent of the survey respondents had undergone some training in the last three years.
