North Dakota has The Bakken…and the other Bakken. From the oil fields of Western North Dakota to the flat lands of the Grand Forks region, a diverse mix of enterprises are meeting our nation’s energy and environmental demands.
Grand Forks is home to three North Dakota Centers of Research Excellence for Energy as well as the United States’ foremost energy research agency, the Energy and Environmental Research Center at the University of North Dakota. The University’s School of Engineering & Mines supports North Dakota’s petroleum industry, offering the only petroleum engineering degree in the state.
Local manufacturers are leading the development of green energy solutions. Among them is LM Wind Power, which manufacturers blades used to produce wind energy.
Nearly 100 local engineering companies, architects, fabricators and others are providing direct services supporting the explosive growth in Western North Dakota’s Bakken region.
